Taos News video features Wayne Bent verdict & interviews

Sect leader convicted on three counts

A video posted on youtube today features unedited footage of Wayne Bent in a Taos courtroom as a jury’s verdicts were read aloud Monday.  Attributed to the Taos News, the 5-minute and 34-second video also includes interviews with Bent and his attorney, Sarah Montoya.

Bent, a self-described Messiah and leader of the Lord Our Righteousness Church, was convicted on one count of second-degree criminal sexual contact of a minor on Monday. The jury also convicted him on two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Sentencing is scheduled for December 29 at 1:30pm at District Court in Las Vegas, New Mexico.

  1. Ms. Montoya blames lack of religious tolerance for Wayne’s conviction, but I think it actually helped him because it gave him at least some plausible deniability, however strained. If this case involved a regular Joe instead of Wayne, there wouldn’t have been any professional defense witnesses to testify that his actions were ok because other people also did the same thing thousands of years ago and that Joe was extremely careful.

Prosecution: Did you lay naked with minors on at least two separate occasions?

    Joe Sixpack: Yes

    Prosecution: Prosecution rests

Joe sixpack: But, but, I was only healing them to offend the world.

Jury: Yeah right bud. Guilty all charges.

  2. According to Mr.s Montoya, Wayne wrote “not guilty on all counts”, but Wayne claims that God told him earlier that he would be convicted.
Mrs. Montoya should be able to see first hand the Charles Manson hold that he has on his flock, and realize that he is a dangerous man.

The writing on the napkin is interesting. Montoya clearly says when asked that Wayne wrote “not guilty.” on all counts. Then a few moments later when asked to clarify she says the opposite. Seems strange Montoya would misspeak about that important point.

She seems like a calm very kind hearted woman. Wayne was fortunate to have had her as his council.

Should be interesting to see if there is an appeal. Based on the fact that Wayne said he did this to offend, and get a conviction. One would think perhaps not.

  4. And let’s not forget the math. 3 out of 4 is not the same as “Guilty on All Accounts.” Apparently Wayne’s god was only 75% right.

  5. Mr Bojangles — yes, you are correct. Wayne’s crystal ball is cloudy. Since Wayne claims that he actually is God (well, God’s son, who gets messages directly from God) and since God (the Father) wouldn’t make an amateur mistake like that, this really should prove to his followers that he’s a fake. Maybe it actually was a message from God to Wayne and “He” was saying to him that, although the jury just finds guilty on 3 counts… God knows that Bent is actually guilty on “all” counts. Now, that, I’m buying.

  6. Mrs. Montoya has a daughter that has commented on this sight, and like her mother, she seems to be an intelligent person. I wonder if her daughter was underage and part of one of Wayne’s “ceremonies” how would she feel?

  7. Wayne Bent posted his post-trial comments today. They can be seen on his http://strongcity.info site (plus they appear on the mirror site http://strongcity2.info , which preserves the site in case they take the other one down again.)

There is something interesting in Wayne’s explanation, besides his usual proclamation for the end of the world as we know it, brought on (we learn now) by his conviction. In his discussion, Wayne identified (and spent quite a bit of time explaining) how the summary by prosecutor Emilio Chavez was extremely significant his being found guilty. Following up on Wayne’s very insightful observation, on the mirror site in the videos section, we show the video, which the defense played in their summation (produced to show that Wayne’s placed his hands on chests often). It is quite enlightening to go there and view that video, along with the comment added (by me) about how that very video from the Strong City crew might have convinced the jury that what Emilio Chavez was saying (the very critical point that Wayne described) was indeed true. Whe you study it yourself, you will also be surprised at how incriminating it is when compared to Chavez’s summary statements.

The irony of ironies is that the Strong City people may have sealed Bent’s fate with their self-serving effort to try to sway (mislead) the jury with something (sneaked into the summary) which would have never met any real evidentiary admissions test, but made Chavez’s assertions far more credible.

One of the hallmarks of our justice system is that every defendant (even the low-down, pond-sucking scum) is entitled to a vigorous and thorough defense.

Given that Ms. Montoya is serving as Wayne’s public defender, she’s assumed that responsibility, without regard for her personal beliefs or opinions. (And I don’t believe she volunteered for this circus, either.) She could no more criticize Wayne publicly than I would praise him, and that’s as it should be.

I would suggest, therefore, that rhetoric surrounding her beliefs or her family is misplaced.

If I am ever accused of a crime, I would hope my attorney would be as engaging and passionate as Ms. Montoya.

First I would like to thank Mr. Redman for preserving that Court room video at his Mirrored Site. I wanted to watch the placement of Wayne’s hands in that video and of course it is no longer accessible at the strongcity.info site. How fortunate we all are that Sam quickly captures and preserves these videos and posts because they do seem to have a habit of disappearing.

I have to agree with Sam’s conclusions. There is no question in several of the shots of Wayne’s hands supposedly just on the sternum they would certainly be touching the fleshy part of the breast. In a couple they seem directly on the breast.

Chavez in my opinion was a tad weak in some areas of his prosecution but when it counted he focused on exactly what needed to be focused on. Wayne most certainly was breaking the law by touching the breasts of a naked girl lying in his bed, next to a naked Wayne Bent. In trying to prove how innocent this touching might have been, the video proved Chavez’s words that it was not innocent at all, and thus against the law.

One must always remember what this case is about, and that is breaking the law. Thankfully the jury agreed.

  10. I was one of the juror on this case…For one We NEVER put Religion in this case it was all about the law and justice had to be served. I just read the links that Mr Redman has posted incredable I can see why his followers think hes the Son of God…he does have a way with words but thats all they are just words. Wayne Bent is no different then any other human laying naked with a minor and touching the naked body of a minor is just plain wrong. he knew that the young girl was there and he was in bed in the buff how hard would it have been for him to throw a pair of pants on. He was clothed with the sister Healed stated that he had turned down her request to lay naked with him, but how many time did he allow her to lay naked with him?

This case was something you hear about like Jim Jones Charles Manson, never in my life did I ever think I would experience being a juror for a case like this.

  11. perspicacious, you were correct to begin with. Wayne does think he’s God, but over the years has toned it down because, I believe, it was turning away his followers. What I found strange was how he now says he’s not the leader and there were defense witnesses from the LOR saying that they are all equal… I HIGHLY doubt that Wayne would let any of his followers say things as he has said them in the following post where he claims to be God (although he somewhat switches between being Jesus and being God, but supposedly His mind is God’s mind).

Take the following he wrote in 2001: http://strongcity2.info/archives/The%20Earth%20Cannot%20Help%20Itself%20%20Michael%20Travesser.htm

“When Adam and Eve chose to follow their own mind, instead of My Mind, they necessarily had to be clothed with animal skins, for they were too ashamed to walk naked as before. ”

“The earth has had relative balance over the centuries, because I have had opposing forces to keep them in check, lest they destroy everything before its time.”

In one part of that post he even says that passages in the Bible are written about him.

On another note, I have been searching for weeks now to find a post that Wayne wrote regarding when a girl becomes a woman. I read it a few months back and believe it was on a forum somewhere in response to the government taking the 400 children away from the FLDS church. I’m hoping somebody else might remember this and help me find it.

What Wayne had said was that we are not to question God in when girls become women and that that is when they reach puberty (I was personally blown away by this as girls are reaching puberty as young as 10 these days). He then stated that at that time the woman can choose to marry, have sex, etc. and argued that it was “this world” who goes against God by not letting women complete their role.

If you read many of Wayne’s posts he refers to Healed as an intelligent young woman (and he emphasizes her womanhood it in a lot of places). If he were to keep with his writings, then it was completely ok in his mind to “consummate” with Healed, so I have a hard time believing that he didn’t try to complete the prophesy of consummation of the 7 when she was an integral part of that.

  12. I don’t remember if WB wrote something like that but Tony Alamo wrote:
“he believes there’s a mandate from the Bible for young girls to marry.

“In the Bible, it happened. But girls today, I don’t marry ’em if they want to at 14, 15 years old. Because we won’t do it, even though I believe it’s OK.”

Also “he had said that for girls having sex, “consent is puberty.”

I found this at the following link but it’s been in several different articles and videos:

    Wrong, wrong, wrong!

  13. “One of the hallmarks of our justice system is that every defendant (even the low-down, pond-sucking scum) is entitled to a vigorous and thorough defense.”
Yes, everyone should get good legal help, but if Charles Manson had “better lawyers”, he might have gotten off, but I hope that even his lawyers could see how dangerous he is. O.J. Simpson got off the first time because he had ” good lawyers”. If you were chosen as a public defender to represent Hitler, you would have to sell your soul to believe he was innocent.

  14. Trudy… What did you need? you can tell me here if you would like. Im not sure if you want to tell me something I do not want to hear or thank me, either way you have the right to your own opinion
